Overview
The Rejoice Christian School Band program is a vibrant, Christ-centered community where students grow musically, personally, and spiritually. Beginning in 5th grade, students are invited to start their band journey by being “fitted” on an instrument. This process considers student interest, strengths, and the needs of a balanced ensemble. Most students continue on the same instrument year after year, building skill, confidence, and excellence. Students transferring to Rejoice who have previous band experience are also encouraged to join.
While 5th grade is the ideal time to start, students may join for the first time in 6th grade. Band is designed as a cumulative program, so students grow together as an ensemble and learn to make music as a team.
Ensemble Structure
Our program includes:
5th Grade Beginning Band
6th Grade Band – final opportunity to join as a beginner!
7th/8th Grade Band
High School Band (9th-12th grade)
Each student plays an important role, reflecting 1 Corinthians 12:12: “We are many parts forming one body.” By staying on the same instrument, students improve steadily while contributing to a strong, balanced ensemble.
Director
All band classes are taught by Emily Stevenson, Director of Bands, who guides students through each step of their musical growth. She fosters a supportive, encouraging, and Christ-centered learning environment, helping students develop both as musicians and as followers of Christ.
Performance & Service Opportunities
Band is more than learning to play an instrument and having fun—it’s an exciting way for students to grow, make music together, and use their talents to glorify God and serve others. Every student has a chance to perform in school concerts, and as they continue in band, their opportunities expand. Middle school students participate in concerts, trips, contests, and school events. High school students enjoy all of these opportunities plus football games and other special performances. Band students gain leadership experience over the years by serving as mentors and role models within the ensemble.
Students also experience music as a form of worship and ministry, using their talents to encourage and bless others Psalm 150:6: “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord”.
